OUR STORY
From Owner and creator Susanna Copeland, MABC: "About 14 months ago, I had a 9 mo old & a 2.5 y/o and Jim kicked me out of the house to have a couple of kid-free hours. I was so excited, those moments were & still are rare & often kind of sudden.
I drove in circles, frustrated, trying to think of what I could do with 2 hours that didn't involve calories, aimless shopping, or sitting still. My tablet was at home & was literal work. I wanted to craft! But had no simple projects, no supplies with me, and 2 hours was far too short to track down supplies, start, & make any meaningful progress.
I thought, "I wish there was a subscription box that had craft kits for grown ups. But it would need to include everything to do the craft, I don't want to spend any time unearthing my needles or glue or scissors from their child safe hiding places. It would need to be contained enough to be easily put away quickly if a baby nap ended early, and small enough to easily slip out of reach of toddlers. And it would need to include crafts that take like 1-2 hours or I would never finish anything. And I would love variety, I wouldn't want like 4 cross stitch projects a month."
I basically wanted a crafting version of Hello Fresh kits, but with zero of my own tools necessary so I could grab and go. So I pulled over and searched online, thinking it was a reasonable and probably common need- I found no options that ticked all the boxes I needed!
I called my friend Kristina Luera Sztraky to commiserate and said "man if I had the bandwidth for another venture that would be such a cool business idea." And she basically said "can I try it?" And POOF! a partnership, a product, and a subscription box business were conceived.
Now, last night I was having a similar "hurry up and go have me time" moment & I was scrambling, realizing my laptop wasn't charged or in its bag, and I saw the Beta Hobby Hop Box I received last week on the table! I grabbed it and nothing else & went to the coffee shop. I completed 2.5 of the 4 crafts (which were really enough supplies for 7) without requiring a single tool outside the contents of the box. Then when the cafe closed I scooped everything up & tossed it back in the box!
Y'all it was like scratching the deepest, most satisfying 14 month old itch and I can not even express the satisfaction experiencing the fruition of an idea so expertly, beautifully, & thoughtfully put together."
